Our History

Ernest Thompson was founded in Albuquerque in the early 1970’s.  Since that time, there have been many changes in the company, but one constant has remained-building furniture of lasting value, one piece at a time, using time tested building techniques.

We have created furniture for customers in all 50 states, as well as Canada, Mexico, Europe and Asia.  Besides our individual clients, our furniture graces many corporate facilities including the Westin Kierland Resort, the Four Seasons Troon, the Ritz Carlton Washington DC and the El Tovar Lodge at the Grand Canyon.

In the past few years, custom cabinetry has become a growing part of our business.  Encouraged by customers wanting the same handcrafted quality and attention to detail as their furniture, we agree that cabinetry is a natural extension to what we’d been doing.

Whether its furniture or cabinetry, though, the heart of Ernest Thompson is the people.  More than half of our craftsmen have been with us at least 15 years , a point that we take great pride in.  These are individuals who never cease to amaze us with their repertoire of talents and ability to create furniture that’s second to none.
