Sombraje means "a branch covered screen." The
branches are from willows and salt cedar that grow
along the streams of northern New Mexico. The
craftsmanship is also uniquely New Mexican. All work
is done by hand. Each branch is hand picked and
peeled in the summer when the sap is rising. The
secondary limbs are clipped off and the fresh
bundles are brought indoors to dry. Their dried
branches are hand painted using fine pigments and
each is cut to length and placed in the panels.
Whether used as graceful, elegant window treatments
or colorful pieces of furniture, Sombraje offers an
abundance of opportunities.
