About us
In his book Rio Grande High Style,
Elmo Baca states, "Nowhere else in the New
World has European culture blended so freely with the rich and bold
colors, designs, textures and raw materials of Native America than
in the Rio
Grande country." With a 400 year history of furniture making in New
Mexico to draw upon for inspiration, we couldn't think of a better
place to build furniture.
For thirty-five years, Ernest Thompson has been
creating furniture that pays homage to design traditions and
standards of craftsmanship that are well established in our Land of
Enchantment.
We're proud about being so stubbornly
married to furniture building techniques that have more to do with
the 1890's than they do with the high tech world of the 21st
century.
In our Albuquerque (NM) workshop, our fifty
Ernest Thompson craftsmen talk about their families, who won last
night's soccer game and what type of fish are being caught in nearby
mountain streams. The cold hum of machinery can never be substituted
for the skilled hand work that a caring, concerned craftsmen imparts
to a traditionally built piece of furniture.
